Event Health and Safety - A New Purple Guide is Launched

A new guide to help organisers find their way round the myriad of legislation and guidelines covering events has been published by the Events Industry Forum (EIF).

The Purple Guide, which has been written and produced by bringing together people from across the events industry and government, is designed to replace a document originally produced by the industry with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) entitled ‘HSG195 A guide to health, safety and welfare at music and similar events’.

Events for Namuwongo Raises £100,000!

The events industry charity partnership, Events for Namuwongo, has announced that in one evening the industry raised £100,000. This astonishing total was achieved during Namuwongo Night, held on Thursday 2nd May 2013 at the Novotel London West.

Tourism Revenue Increases by £9bn

Launching the Tourism Alliance’s new 2013 Tourism Statistics Review in Parliament, it was revealed that total tourism expenditure in the UK increased by 6.9% from £125bn to £134bn.

This increase of £9bn was sufficient to generate 180,000 new jobs for the UK economy – over one third of all additional jobs generated in the UK last year.

BVEP Welcomes Visitbritain's Strategy For Business Tourism But Calls For More Detail

The Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP) has welcomed the inclusion of market plans for business tourism as part of VisitBritain's three year strategy to grow inbound tourism to Britain.

The strategy, which was launched by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt Hon Maria Miller MP, also acknowledges that business tourism is a significant component of international tourism to the UK and is performing strongly. It states that events boost Britain's image overseas and business travellers are a ready audience for activity that promotes an extension of their stay in Britain for leisure activity.
