It’s official, Cavendish Conference Venues will become the first group of venues in central London to be landfill neutral in January 2009.  This announcement follows the company’s recent nomination for the ‘Visit London Sustainable Tourism Award’ and its acquisition of a Green Tourism Silver Award during November 2008.

Introduction

This paper outlines the progress in taking forward the National Skills Strategy (NSS) for the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector up to October 2008. The majority of the update featured here is on the development of the NSS infrastructure, for example with qualifications reform. Future updates will also look to include what other partners are doing to help take forward the 10-point plan nationally, regionally, and locally.

£100 Million Boost for New Academy PDF Print E-mail

National Skills Academy for Hospitality has been given the green light by the government. Minister for Skills David Lammy announced on 7th May 2008, that the People 1st co-ordinated bid for a National Skills Academy in Hospitality had been successful.

This marks the dawn of a new era in education and training for the hospitality industry, with employers working in partnership with Academy centre’s to design and deliver challenging and robust programmes to stretch the best, most capable learners.

The Academy for Hospitality is a key part of our National Skills Strategy, and it is backed by leading sector employers.

Outdoor TV Screen Structures PDF Print E-mail
We refer to the the industry workshop held on 2nd April 2008 and the report entitled ‘Risk issues associated with large TV/Video screens at public events’ ( www.scoss.org.uk/publications.asp ) which was issued at the same time.  
 
The HSE investigation into  the Millennium Point Fun Park TV screen collapse in June 2006 has now concluded. It is clearly important that the generic lessons are learnt from this incident; luckily no injuries occurred, but it could have been very different.
